Let Freedom Ring - Liberty
Let Freedom Ring - Liberty
20 x 20 x 1.5 Mixed Media on Canvas
“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” -- 2 Corinthians 3:17
The Liberty Bell is iconic – but carries more than patriotic weight. Inscribed on her side is Leviticus 25:10: “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.”
When you read further in Leviticus, it speaks of the 50th year: the Year of Jubilee – a time of release, return, and restoration.
Throughout American history, the bell has rung in the fight for freedom – It rang at the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Decades later, though cracked and silent, she became a symbol for abolition and freedom (1830s-1860s); and later she echoed in the women’s suffrage movement (late 1800s-1920) through the Justice Bell.
She has been a call to unity—to proclaim liberty for all.
But this freedom came at a cost.
Just as Jesus Christ came to free us from the yoke of the world and the bondage of the enemy, He says:
“Take My yoke upon you... for My yoke is easy, and. My burden is light” -- Matthew 11:29-30
This bell has echoed through generations as a symbol of deliverance, but true liberty is found only in Him.
“It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.” -- Isaiah 10:27 And we have been redeemed – not with silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ.
“...He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed...” -- Luke 4:18 (from Isaiah 61)
